A "Manliness" Starter Kit! July 7, 2010 R. Williams (USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I got this as an early birthday present and it's a perfect "trunk kit" for guys who need tools on-the-go. The case is incredibly sturdy and the tools are relatively nice and manly-feeling.
I kinda wish I had got this as a first-time homeowner, because after having a home for 6 years, I already have everything that this set includes. This is NOT a reflection on the quality of the merchandise itself... I simply wish that when I began my meager tool collection, I had as nice a package as this to keep it all together and in one spot.
Let's crack her open and have a look-see...
THE DRILL is, as mentioned in a rather cynical 1-star review, definitely a "low level, basic" drill. But I doubt anyone who is going to buy an entire 51-piece toolkit is planning on building a summer cottage with the included tools. The drill works just fine for minor home repairs and appliance installation. You get a few 2-inch SCREWDRIVER BITS and an (invaluable) DRIVE GUIDE that will help you avoid "thumping" the drywall and sending your screws flying because you didn't want to pre-drill a hole. You also get a few NUT DRIVERS (a ratchet set) that drive nuts. Let me know if this is too scientific for you.
The kit comes with three types of sturdy PLIERS (wire snips, needle-nose and joint-adjustable). You also get a CRESCENT WRENCH that you will use once, get annoyed with, and then lose somewhere in your garage when you swap it out for a set of pliers or the nut drivers. Your kid will have it in his room for some reason and when you ask him about it he'll be evasive, and you'll scratch your head and wonder what he could possibly be doing with your tools that makes him reticent to discuss it with you. Then he'll go off and dye his hair black and read books about vampires. Kids these days.
What else? You get a Phillips and Flathead SCREWDRIVER. (I wish these were thicker 'round the grip, but come on... who doesn't have a few screwdrivers lying around anyway? Even my wife, whom I lovingly call "useless and tool-ignorant", had a couple of screwdrivers when we took up residence together. It was the liquor that got her interested in me moving in. That was a joke, son. Let's move on...)
Ooooh! Look! A HAMMER! What do you want? It's a hammer. It's better than whatever the hell a caveman would use to hang a picture of a pheasant in his wife's kitchen.
There is also a SLIDE UTILITY KNIFE in here that is just plain useful. You can get refill blades at your local Lowes/Home Depot/Ace. Don't try to take this on an airplane. And wear something white at night so we can see you on the road. I'm trying to help you, you know.
All of this, along with a power supply/battery for your drill, and a few drill BITS makes up the set.
The CASE is fantastic and very sturdy/dependable. When you walk around with it you look like a great big, handy lug. Women will see this and desire you for your power and raw talent.
An interesting (to me) note about the packaging that the set comes in. You get this product in a large orange box with a clear window that lets you peek at all the goodies in the case. When you take the item out of the box, there are two clear plastic "blisters" that have been stapled on one side and SCREWED INTO the other side. I assume they have been placed there in order to keep the contents from going all nutty during transit. If you haven't got any tools, it's somewhat annoying that the item you have just bought requires a screwdriver and pliers in order to get INTO the screwdriver and pliers you just bought. But keep at it, tiger... it's worth it, I promise.
So all things considered, I say that this toolkit is pretty much ideal for anyone who needs a handy "starter kit" for around the house, condo, or apartment. If you're a pro, you've already got better tools than this, and the items aren't geared towards you anyway. Go build a deck and stop looking at my wife.
Also, when you open the thing up it's gonna smell like your Dad's shop. That's kinda worth the $100 alone, if you ask me.
Great Tool Kit! July 5, 2010 Academy Bookseller 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We purchased this project kit from Amazon.com and it was delivered very quickly. The tools are all heavy, high quality and easy to use. We especially like the durable black storage case so we can find a specific tool fast when we need it. Overall, a very good purchase.
Excellent - all necessary tools in one case August 2, 2010 J. M. Hill I liked the tool kit. I plugged in the drill to charge, and it works great. This is handy for me to just grab and get to what needs fixing. I dont have to worry about finding the right tool. I especially like having the cordless drill right in my case.
Saves a lot of steps looking for tools. I told my husband hands off....

Perfect starter kit July 10, 2010 Michael Swaidan (Ventura, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just moved in to a new Condo, and this kit is perfect for basic set up and maintenance. If you want to do a full on renovation you might want to look elsewhere though. All the tools are good quality and work great. Not much to say beyond that. I rated it 4 stars due to the absence of a tape measure (not that they're hard to come by, I thought it was odd that it wasn't included) and the price. I paid $54.99 and was satisfied, but $99 might be a bit too pricey, but certainly not outrageous.
